Brøyt X-2B

An old fighter

I was out on a stormy night in the fall of 2014, where I drove around Randesund, here in Kristiansand, to find a viewpoint for taking long exposure photos. However, I did not find that. On the other hand, I came across this excavator, provided in this forest cavity. This evening, however, it was not a matter of photographing it, so I noticed the place to be able to come back. However, there were many places and a lot of back and forth this night, so I completely lost the direction and forgot the place name. Even now, after finding back and taking pictures, I do not know if I remember the place and can come back. But, I got this picture from this old machine.

When I grew up in Fevik in the 60's and 70's as a young boy, Fevik School was built with a new building, which included swimming pool. And, it became my first meeting with this Norwegian-built machine. I mean to remember that it was entrepreneur Kristen Gundersen from Grimstad who was responsible for the excavation of the school space, and I remember spending a lot of time studying the power, the technique and the design. If I had met Kristen Gundersen again today, I actually think he would remember the little boy who stood there and who asked so many questions about this machine.

The machine was built by Brødrene Søyland AS at Bryne, later Brøyt AS, and this machine is a not so small part of Norwegian industrial history as it was superior to its competitors at the time. And we speak the sixties. The special advantage of the machine was in connection with the clearing of forest areas for new cultivation, and it was advantageous as it did not propel the wheels.

As you understand, i have my fasination for these old machines, and I think they are lovely crations.  I don't like that they are parked in the nature, due to the polution they may are.  However they remains me about live.  You starting fresh and strong, but then something new is developed, stronger and more modern and fresh than you. Suddenly you are just old and rusty, and nobody have any need for you.

I found this one belong the road 461 between Finsland and Laudal.  Mostly in the middle of nowhere.
